What's different about the Solar Eclipse on Snowdon Walk?

The walk is similar to our Snowdon Sunset Walk. You will get the opportunity to see the sunset from Snowdon but before this you the solar eclipse will be taking place. It lasts for just under two hours so...

  • You will spend more time at the summit (around 2 hours)

  • You will get Solar Eclipse Glasses (ISO 12312-2:2015 and 'CE' certified)

Who is the 'Snowdon Solar Eclipse Walk' for?

The Llanberis Path is the easiest route up Snowdon so is perfect for most people who can walk at a steady pace for around 7 hours. We will be taking regular short breaks.

It is a good choice if you want to relax and enjoy the views.

We accept children of 13 years and over on our Group Walks. Anyone under the age of 18 has to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times. Please contact us to arrange a Private Guiding walk for parents and children under 13 years of age.

What equipment do I need?

We will send you a detailed kit list upon booking and again shortly before the event.

We will be providing you with Solar Eclipse Glasses. These are ISO 12312-2:2015 and 'CE' certified. The glasses block 99.999% of high-intensity visible light and all harmful ultraviolet and infrared light.

A headtorch or torch with spare batteries is required for the descent.

Normal hiking gear is needed and this varies a little depending on the time of year and the forecast on the day. Items that are always required which you may need to go out and buy include walking boots/ walking shoes (not trainers), a waterproof jacket, and a rucksack.

We can give you advice about what to buy if you have booked onto one of our walks.

Where does the 'Snowdon Solar Eclipse Walk' start?

This walk starts in the village of Llanberis.

We will send you out detailed Event Notes by email before the walk which include where and when to meet and parking instructions.

Instructors

All of our instructors are fully qualified Mountain Leaders with a minimum of a 16 hour First Aid certificate. All participants are covered by our Public Liability Insurance.

Snowdon Solar Eclipse Walk description

You will spend slightly longer on the mountain than our Snowdon Sunset Walk in order to watch the eclipse.

You will walk up the Llanberis Path as it is getting quieter in the afternoon arriving at the summit as the solar eclipse is starting. You will watch the whole eclipse from the summit then watch the sunset. After this you will walk down the same footpath under the cover of darkness as stars begin to fill the nights sky.
