Mountains don’t have to be big to be beautiful and the Moelwynion mountains are testament to that. This is possibly Eryri's (Snowdonia’s) best kept secret.

Magnificent Moelwynion:
Route Description

This stunning walk has bags of character and every turn reveals a new surprise. You will experience the beautiful Beddgelert, walk along the shore of the Llyn Dinas lake, hike over the rugged Moelwynion hills with their stunning views of the Snowdon range, pass through ancient forest and along the banks of the Arfon Glaslyn River as it carves it’s way through the steep-sided and spectacular Glaslyn Gorge.

This Private Guided Walk starts in the quaint village of Beddgelert so we would recommend starting your day with a coffee or fry up as you sit next to the river and watch it cascade under the old stone bridge. The walk begins with a short but steep ascent up to the summit of Mynydd Sygyn 300m. From here you will have amazing 360 panoramic views which include the Snowdon Range. Although this is the high point it is perhaps not the highlight as the best is yet to come.

A gentle amble follows as you slowly descend towards the Nant Gwynant valley keeping the Snowdon Range in view. You will walk past the Sygun Copper Mine then along the banks of the Llyn Dinas Lake. After leaving the shores of the lake you will slowly gain height for the second and final time rewarding you with the great views of the lake.

The walk then gently descends down the Cwm Bychan with rugged and remote scenery left and right. Lower down the valley you will pass the remains of the Cwm Bychan Ropeway which is a relic from the 20th-century copper mine. The landscape changes as you descend into the forest.

The walk takes on a different feel as you enter the ancient wooded valley of the Pass of Aberglaslyn. You will follow the Arfon Glaslyn river upstream as it snakes its way through the spectacular forested gorge to the confluence back in Beddgelert.
